My initial aim was to try different mediums until I found the type of painting that suited me.

Deb taught me to experiment with acrylics, liquid acrylics, watercolour, mixed media and to try different techniques to achieve alternate effects.

We learnt perspective drawing, shadowing, how to create depth of field, how to draw and paint portraits and a myriad of other subjects.

Her lessons are fun and informative and the studio is set in eclectic and beautiful gardens. She is a Gem!

So far, I have completed projects with acrylic paints, ink, liquid pour paint, colour pencil and mosaic.

Her lessons have a relaxed atmosphere, her studio is fantastic and it is lovely to catch up with the other students each week.

I consider myself a beginner, yet with Deb’s guidance I have completed pieces that I am proud to hang on the wall!

I've been having lessons with Deb for the last 2 years she is my mentor and now also my friend.

My m-i-l is absolutely thrilled with her painting (expertly guided by Debra)!  Honestly, Debra was the perfect instructor catering to our every need. Debra provided gluten free food which I thought was very kind and considerate of her.  Debra was extremely patient and time went so quickly because we all had such a great time. We couldn't be happier with our 'master pieces'! 

I have been part of Art classes Brisbane for almost 10 years. We paint, draw and most important we laugh. A wonderful group of people, Deb, our teacher is experienced in all manner of art techniques and she encourages her students to follow new modalities. Just walking into the studio through the magical garden uplifts the senses, ready to embark on your artistic journey.

First art classes in my life (aged 73!) with Deb of Art Classes Brisbane and am very happy with what began as a four-lesson Christmas gift from my wife. Have just completed my second set of sessions and produced two ‘masterpieces’! Can confirm that Deb & her other students have been an inspiration to me. I have learned so much in such a short time. Art Classes Brisbane is a Must Go To for anyone wanting results in their art. Debra Pickering is a multi skilled artist, nonjudgmental, encouraging, and generous with her advice to anyone who asks. I returned to art as a retired person after a 50 year gap. My drawing looked more like a 7 year-old’s! Deb coached the art out of me, until now I regularly enter my paintings at Ekka- without any embarrassment. Not a winner yet but . . . Adi Strickland
